Our lesson this week is based on two stories of David showing mercy to King Saul when King Saul did not deserve mercy. King Saul had shown no mercy to David. Both of these stories occur as King Saul is trying to kill David. Twice David passes up the opportunity to kill his enemy. These two acts of mercy show David's godly character.

Memory Verse: Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7

This weeks lesson looks at David and Jonathan becoming great friends. They were an unlikely pair, Jonathon was King Saul's son and King Saul's choice to be king. David was a part-time shepherd and the one chosen by God to become king. On the day David killed Goliath, these two heroes became fast friends and loyal allies.

Memory Verse: A friend loves at all times. Proverbs 17:17

Our lesson this week will focus on one of the most familiar Bible stories of all time: David and Goliath. David knew God was on his side. David was armed with his faith and he went out with confidence and killed Goliath.
We will learn to how important our faith in God is. When we know who God is and that He is on our side, we can do great things for Him.

Memory Verse: I can do everything through Christ. Philippians 4:13 NIV

Sunday September 12, 2010

Last Sunday we spent most of the time teaching about the Armor of God and why it is important to put it on each day. We also discussed what class will be like and what our new students can expect each week.

This week we will combine lessons from last week and this week. We will be learning about Israel's first king, Saul and how Saul's disobedience caused God to remove him from being king. We will continue with David being chosen to be king. David was a man after God's own heart. He didn't always do right but he loved God. When David did do wrong he repented and changed his behavior. That is the key to a heart after God.

Memory Verse: The Lord looks at the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

First we want to say welcome to our new 1st graders! This will be their first Sunday in our class. We are very excited to have them!

This week we are going to learn about Saul, the first king of Israel. God wanted a king that would love and obey Him, instead Saul chose his own way over and over again instead of doing it God's way. God took away the kingship from Saul.

Memory Verse: To obey is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22
